Finding your way around Atomicwork and the requests you're handling will help you manage your tasks better. This guide will help you familiarize yourself with the left navigation panel, explore request views, and effectively use filters and sorting options to stay on top of your workload.

Understanding the navigation pane

The left navigation panel is your gateway to managing different types of requests and tasks. Here’s a breakdown of the key sections:

  • Assigned to me: This section lists all the requests that are currently assigned to you. It’s your personal to-do list, helping you prioritize and manage your workload efficiently.

  • Requested by me: This shows the requests you’ve personally initiated. It’s useful for tracking the status and progress of requests you’ve submitted on behalf of others or for yourself. For example, if you’ve submitted a request to update software on a colleague’s machine, you can easily check here to see how that request is progressing.

  • Approvals and tasks: Here, you’ll find any tasks or approvals that require your action. Keeping an eye on this section ensures that critical tasks are completed on time.
For instance, if a change request is waiting for your sign-off, you’ll find it here, making it easy to review and approve or deny promptly.

  • Activity: The activity section keeps you informed about requests where you’ve been mentioned in a private comment, as well as those you’re following. This way you can stay updated on the latest developments without having to manually check each request.

Below the general sections, you’ll see a list of all the workspaces you’re part of. Each workspace contains its own set of requests and changes, and in the case of IT workspace, incidents and problems as well.

Within any workspace, you can navigate to the specific request type (such as Requests, Changes, or Problems) to see all existing and incoming requests. Each workspace is tailored to the specific needs of that department, but the structure remains consistent, making it easy to switch between different workspaces.

Moving around request views

Request views in Atomicwork allow you to organize and manage requests based on different criteria. Here’s how to move around these views effectively:

  • Default views: Atomicwork provides several default views, such as Unassigned, High Priority, Overdue, Incidents, etc. These views are pre-configured to help you quickly access the most relevant information. For instance, if you want a quick look at all the requests that have breached their SLA policy, you can do so by navigating to the Overdue Requests view.

  • Custom views: You can also create custom views tailored to your specific needs. For example, you might create a view that only shows requests assigned to you with an SLA deadline within the next 48 hours. This can help you prioritize your tasks and requests correctly.

You can switch between views by using the drop-down menu at the top of the request list to choose your preferred view. You can also reorder the views like you would native browser tabs by simply dragging and dropping them in the desired location. This flexibility allows you to focus on different sets of requests as your priorities shift throughout the day. For instance, you might start your day reviewing the High Priority view to address urgent tasks before moving on to the Unassigned view to identify requests that need to be picked up.

Understanding and utilizing request views enables you to manage your workload more effectively and ensures you’re always focused on the most critical tasks.

Using filters and sorting in views

Filters and sorting options in Atomicwork help you refine and organize your request list, making it easier to focus on what matters most.

Filters allow you to narrow down your request list based on specific criteria such as request type, status, priority, or SLA status. So, if you’re only interested in seeing high-priority incidents that are nearing their SLA, you can apply filters to focus on these requests exclusively.

Sorting helps you organize your requests in a way that makes the most sense for your workflow. For instance, you can sort requests by due date to see which tasks need immediate attention helping you stay on top of deadlines.

For maximum efficiency, you can combine filters and sorting to manage a potentially overwhelming list of requests with ease, ensuring you always stay focused on the right tasks. For example, you could filter for high-priority requests and then sort them by due date. This ensures you’re always working on the most critical and time-sensitive tasks first.

This guide is designed to help you navigate Atomicwork like a pro, streamline your workflow, and manage requests more efficiently and with confidence.
