Asset management helps you efficiently track, manage, and control your company’s assets such as laptops, desktops, routers, or other equipment. You can track the entire lifecycle, ownership, basic information like serial number, purchase date, warranty date, etc. Besides, you can also link assets to incidents and automate actions on assets.
Here’s how you can manage your assets effectively in Atomicwork.
Asset types
Asset types help you organize different kinds of assets that you have - like printers, desktops, projectors, keyboards, etc. Each asset type can have specific attributes that define important details like serial number, model information, assignee and status.
Out of the box, Atomicwork comes with these inbuilt asset types:
Desktop | Printer |
Keyboard | Projector |
Laptop | Router |
Monitor | Server |
Mouse | Tablet |
Phone |
|
You can also add your own asset types based on the nature of assets you use in your organization and capture information that's specific to that asset type.
Creating a new asset type
You can create custom asset types to accommodate specific equipment or categories unique to your organization. For example, if your organization has digital meeting boards for presentations or security cameras for monitoring, you could add these as custom types.
Navigate to Settings > Assets under Organization.
Click on View in the Types and attributes card, then select the Types tab.
Click on Create at the top right.
Enter a name, upload an image (optional) and click on Create.
You can create the attributes to be associated with a custom type under the Attributes tab.
Asset attributes
Asset attributes define the specific details and characteristics of each asset type, such as serial numbers, purchase dates, and status. This ensures that all relevant information about an asset is easily accessible and available when needed. You can also create custom attributes to work for your organization and processes.
The default asset attributes are:
Attribute name | Attribute type |
Display name | Short text |
Asset tag | Short text |
Description | Long text |
Serial number | Short text |
Department | Relationship |
Assigned to | Relationship |
Status | Dropdown |
Display name is a mandatory attribute. You can also add or remove new values for the Status attribute.
Creating a custom asset attribute
You can customize the asset attributes to suit your processes and accommodate specific devices. For example, you can add 'Number of HDMI ports' as an attributes to a custom type 'Meeting board' that you might have created.
Navigate to Settings > Assets under Organization.
Click on View in the Types and attributes card, then select the Attributes tab.
The default attributes are listed first, followed by your custom attributes.
To edit an existing attribute, click on the pencil icon against the attribute.
To create a new custom attribute, click on the Add button at the top right.
Enter the display name and choose the attribute type. You can create custom attributes from the following supported types:
Short text
Long text
Dropdown
Multi-select
Phone number
Email
Number
Date
Checkbox
Choose the asset types to which the attribute will apply.
Choose whether this attribute should be mandatory when creating an asset. We’d recommend you share a list of mandatory attributes with all employees who are in charge of asset data maintenance and updates.
Click on Create and you're done!
